Steve Jobs has announced that the iPhone and iPad will not load porn sites. You can read one of the articles here: http://news.cnet.com/8301-17852_3-20002922-71.html. Jobs views this as giving apple users freedom, saying "Yep, freedom from programs that steal your private data. Freedom from programs that trash your battery. Freedom from porn. Yep, freedom. The times they are a changin', and some traditional PC folk feel like their world is slipping away. It is."
The iPad and iPhone will not support apps consisting of porn. Granted, users can apparently still search for it on the web, but it is a step in the right direction!
Strangely, at least it appears strange to me, a 21 year old male Christian, some people do not view this as a freedom, or a good thing at all. Ryan Tate, a writer on the Gawker site, emailed Jobs to complain about the Apple decision. You can read his article here:http://gawker.com/5539717/steve-jobs-offers-world-freedom-from-porn.
Jobs sees that porn is addictive, and doing this is at least stopping one or two ways of receiving this damaging drug. Porn addiction is a serious thing, and there are many ministries that help with it, including xxxchurch.org, and most recently, www.thepornevent.com, which is a video conference (30 minutes long) talking about the damages.
Kudos, Apple, for sticking up for your beliefs, even if they are not necessarily Christian based. Let us hope that other companies and organizations follow Apple's actions.
