Sounds make us do funny things, don't they.  They instill emotion, they invoke confidence, they offer communication when words fail (I am separating words from sounds).  A primal cry can show more insight than words sometimes.

And music pounces on that.  A fast and pounding drum beat can set your heart racing, almost in time, giving you the impression you can do just about anything.  A crying guitar- like I am hearing as I type this on John Mayer's song "Gravity" of the "Where the Light Is" album- creates a feeling of desperation, and turns the words of one man into a connection into the emotions of a complete stranger listening.

Think of you favorite movie- now imagine it without a soundtrack, without any music accompaniment.  Weird, right?  What would Star Wars be like without the infamous score to let you know when the Empire is approaching, when a victory has occurred.

Music is powerful.  It gives us the drive to keep running at the gym when we just want to stop.  It helps us heal when our soul is hurt.  It speaks out against social injustice.

Today, listen for the music.  Sometimes it is on the radio, sometimes in a movie.  Sometimes it is sent from God in the form of beautiful nature.  Every sound created to cause a feeling.  Every sound a moment that is unique.  Don't let that pass you by.

    Playlist:
    "Am I Still On"- 1969
    "Gravity (Live)"- John Mayer
    "Friend Like You"- Joshua Radin
"Darlin' Do Not Fear"- Brett Dennen
