As a child, I had a pretty active imagination.  I never had an imaginary friend, I always knew the difference between the real and made-up.  But I loved playing pretend.

War. Rock star. Superhero.  I loved it all.  I think we all loved playing pretend as kids.  But at some point during our journey to adulthood, we lost it.  We stopped pretended, stopped imagining.  We starting thinking logically, concretely, realistically.

Can we get that back? Should we get that back?  I think yes.   I think we should bring the inner child back to life.

    Here's why:

    • We serve a God who is the most creative Being in the universe.  He is also perfect, which means he doesn't create with trial and error, but with perfection and excellence.

    • We, on the other hand, are not perfect.  Which means when we create we cannot start at perfection, but at the bottom floor.  We create through trial and error, through playing with designs, through pretending and imagining.

Don't let your imagination be a prisoner of your adulthood.  Don't let it only come out when you need to finish a project.  Let it free. Embrace your ability to imagine things that aren't really there!

I believe this world would be a much better place if we all imagined just a little bit more.

Dig deep inside yourself, it is still there, I promise.  It is waiting to be set free.

So let's make forts in our living room with blankets and pillows, let's pretend our backyard is a warzone and a pine cone is a grenade, let's pretend our hairbrush is a microphone and our mirror is 10,000 people singing along.  Let's regenerate our imagination. Let's not settle for an adulthood that says playing pretend is for kids, and satisfaction only comes from tangible things.
