I started thinking- honey bees have a "one time use" stinger. After that one sting, they die. Think about the commitment needed to perform that sting.
This will be a multi-part post, over a few days. We will look at what it means for us as Christians, and what it means for us as artists.
What does that mean for us as Christians?
It means going all in, giving everything you have to one thing. Think about it- the bee has one chance. He can either hold on to it forever, or he can sacrifice his life for a greater purpose. How often do you see that in the life of the average Christian? I am as guilty of this as anything- choosing a life of comfort over a life of servant-hood.
Christ didn't call us to follow him as long as our gas tank is full. He didn't call us to follow him as long as we aren't seen doing something "fanatical" by people we work with. He called us to follow him. period.
As Christians- we have been saved by the grace of God, the blood of Christ. We will praise God eternally in Heaven. In certain terms, we're 'set.' So why can't we take advice from the bee and willingly lay down our life for the chance that someone else can experience that grace.
This is a hard lesson to learn. And even harder to execute. We are taught growing up that we have to protect ourselves because what good are we if we are dead. On planes they tell you to put the oxygen mask on yourself before you try to help others. And yes, we should not blindly risk our lives, but we should be willing to sacrifice for the sake of spreading the Gospel.
The bee sacrifices for the sake of protection. Protecting what he feels is the most important thing. So important it is worth laying down his life.
We can learn alot from bees. No matter who we are- artists, Christians, humans in general. Living a life committed is never a bad thing.
