Everyone has Easter traditions. Some churches do a passion play on Easter Sunday, some do a cantata, and others do an egg hunt.
Some churches use Easter as a time to blow peoples minds with creativity. Elevation Church is going 3D.
Some people go out an buy new dresses and ties, others align with the tradition of proclaiming that Easter Sunday isn't about buying new clothes.
Some people tell their kids that the Easter Bunny is real, while Jim Gaffigan questions the sanity of believing in such mythical creatures:
"How 'bout eggs?.... Alright, we'll hide them!" (Sorry about the quality- but I have always loved this bit of his)
I feel like Easter and "Spring Celebrations" should be separate days. I mean, seriously, who decided to join the celebration of flowers blooming by buying expensive clothes with the celebration of the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Was the Great Commission followed by "And when you celebrate my resurrection, treat yourselves to a new $150 dress. Seriously- you deserve it!"
(Sorry- went off on a bit of a rant apparently- there is nothing wrong with looking nice, I just don't see the need to break bank for a dress you wear for 3 hours tops.)
Easter is a time to celebrate the power Christ has over death. Spring is a time to celebrate flowers and bunny rabbits.
We all have traditions for Easter- for example- my wife's family traditionally goes to church and then goes to visit family in Edgefield, SC. They have an Easter Egg hunt where they hide money in eggs, and after lunch they play baseball with easter eggs.
My family doesn't really have any Easter traditions other than an Easter lunch with immediate family and sometimes some extended family. My mom always had Easter baskets waiting for me and my sister when we woke up that morning, she still does actually. It is something she really enjoys doing.
What are some traditions that you have? What are you planning on doing for Easter? How are you celebrating the resurrection of Christ and the salvation that is now available to us?
