I watched the Grammys last night. I enjoy awards shows. They are entertaining. I enjoy watching who wins what and seeing who performs with who.
But I have to say, last night's Grammy's seemed more like a music festival for people in tuxedos than an award show. I mean, for every award that took 3 minutes tops there was 15 minutes of music performance.
I enjoyed the music, don't get me wrong (for the most part). I really enjoyed Cee Lo's performance, because even though it was as weird as it could get, it was creative! The Bob Dylan/ Mumford and Sons/ Avett Brothers performance was good. (I didn't get to see the Muse performance, but I heard amazing things). Katy Perry did a great job. Arcade Fire was awesome- their light show was stinkin' amazing!
Overall, I thought the Grammy's was decent. Alot of people got upset at Arcade Fire winning album of the year, but congratulations to them! I am not a huge Arcade Fire fan, but they do put out some good music.
According to Win Butler, the lead singer of Arcade Fire, they won because "the heavy-hitter vote was divided." There were some great albums up for album of the year, but they 'big players' like Gaga, Eminem, and Lady Antebellum had fans broken up over who to vote for because these band's singles were played on every Top 20 station every chance they could. Which means the people who heard Gaga's newest hit, also heard Eminem's newest hit. Because the songs were produced to have a sound people would like, listeners liked both. Arcade Fire's singles weren't played on Top 20, and if it was, it wasn't overplayed. So there weren't many 'crossover fans'.
Now its on the the Oscar's! I cannot wait for that!
