Feel its time for another Sunday Morning post before church starts this morning.
Went skiing yesterday with the youth. I didn't know that 21 meant you couldn't keep up with 15 year old til then. Granted, I was skiing with a cracked boot, but you get the idea...
One of the things I noticed all through that day was how many people are hurting. That is what is good about church- you can keep those people out. But unfortunately, in the real world, people are really hurting and need real help. This is not where the local church steps in. At least it shouldn't be. This is where the Christian steps in.
You see, the local church can help just like the Christian can, but when the local church does it, it doesn't make that big an impact. People expect churches to help them. Nowadays, people don't expect Christians to help them.
I am putting a big difference in church and Christian. Here- I am not using the word church as the body of believers, but as the "organization" of the body of believers. The people who help run the particular church. At FBCEFR, we have a staff member who is over helping people. He uses great discernment on helping those who need it, and when to let them stand on their own.
But when I say Christian, I am referring to the Christ follower, who is outside of church. Not as a Sunday School class, not as a WMU, but as [insert your name here], Christian.
That is what Christ called us to do. He told us to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, help the poor. He didn't say to find these people, invite them the church where we can judge them for not wearing the right thing while saying outloud "I'm so glad they were able to come, it's really good for them".
Going to church doesn't fix your problems. Becoming a Christian doesn't fix your problems. You will still be as hungry, poor, and naked as before. In order to fix that, we as Christians need to step up and help these that are hurting.
