we are created to worship. and by that statement i do not mean that we as Christians are not worshipping and we need to fix that. unfortunately it is a much worse problem. we are worshipping constantly, not just Christians, but all humans. but we are worshipping the wrong stuff.
we are created to worship. and when we are not worshipping our Creator, we turn to anything else we can find. here are just some examples: American Idol, your spouse, your car, your job, your hobby, your friends, your computer, your favorite tv show, your education, your stuff, your favorite band. the list goes on and on.
when we like something, we want more. i have never heard anyone say, "Man, I love that band! Can I never hear it again?" that's ridiculous. but when we want more of something- that is worship. worship is liking something so much we want more. this can be extreme- like stalking, or minor, like buying the new album from your favorite band.
obviously we can't stop worshipping (as i have stated twice already- we are created to worship.) but unfortunately we tend to worship useless junk. we worship bands, movies, actors, authors, leaders, heroes, money, servants, cars, houses, bank accounts, girls, boys, churches. yes, churches. but we often fail to worship the very being who created us for worship.
Do you want to know what your purpose is in life? it is to worship God.
Do you want to know why you can't get enough of your favorite things? because you can't. your soul craves for something far greater than what your favorite thing can offer. and because of that, you soul wants more. your earthly desire simply cannot fill the hole.
as you go through your day today- think about the things you worship, either in the form of your favorite things, or things you have to have- and compare that to what worshipping God offers.
